What is the Aero ?
This is a new "spoiler or recurved" windshield designed by Fast Aire
Its made from ballastic grade polycarbonate for impact resistance and coated with a very hard thermo applied material that is scratch & chemical resistant
Why use polycarbonate ? Because it is used for bullet proof windshields, auto racing windshields, aircraft windshields, safety glasses and other areas where impact resistance and safety is the only consideration for material choice.
Various manufacturers told me to use acrylic material instead. Why ? Because the raw material is cheaper & its cheaper to manufacture too. But I'm stubborn and wanted polycarbonate because I knew it was the best material for a motorcycle windshield.
NASCAR & NHRA require polycarbonate windshields..........
So... what material do you want in front of your face ?
General:
The Aero has been in the works for almost a year. Several versions were ridden & tested for over 5000 miles by several different riders in different parts of the USA before it went into production.
The company that manufactures this polycarbonate is one of the largest in the USA. This material is custom engineered to their specifications for a motorcycle windshield. They know more about this stuff than I do, so I went with their recommendations. I told them to give me the best and they did.
The company that forms the windshields does alot of US Military work like the HumVee bullet proof windshield, makes auto racing windshields and other stuff.
Their speciality is polycarbonate forming.
Design Elements:
This is a recurve, spoiler or flip designed windshield
Just like the rear spoiler on a car, the recurved section redirects the normal path of the air flowing over the top & kicks it up at a higher angle.
We didn't just take a plain windshield & curve the top. The Aero has 9 different curve elements built into the body of the windshield.
The recurve diverts the air flow about 1 1/2 to 2 inches higher than a non recurved windshield at the same speed. The faster you ride, the better it works.
The edges are radial milled with a custom cutter and have a mild radius on the edge. They are not square cut. The surface smoothness is <63 RMA. Generally, thats 2X smoother than the edges of HD OEM windshields.
The profile is cut on a CNC router to insure accuracy from one part to the next.
Material Info:
It is Polycarbonate, it is not "Lexan" material. Lexan is a trade name for what used to be GE Polymers but is now owned by SABIC Innovative Plastics ... who is ...
Saudi Basic Industries Corporation, a Saudi Arabian Company.
I prefer to buy from US companies.
Thickness: .138 +/- thick Polycarbonate, that's .015 thicker than stock HD shields.
UV Protection: The material has UV protection built in to protect from the sun.
Impact Reststance: This polycarbonate is 20 X more impact resistant than Acrylic of the same thickness.
Hard Coating: Thermo bonded hard coating that is chemical & scratch resistant. It is 3X harder than acrylic, very slick to aid as a water repellant and is crystal clear.
This coating is applied in an oven so there's a molecular bonding between the polycarbonate & the hard coating. It's not cold sprayed like some applications.
.
American Society for Testing and Materials - ASTM
This material was subjected to and passed multiple ASTM requirements for:
Impact Resistance

Abrasion Resistance
Tensile Strength

Elongation
Compression Strength

Temperature Variances
Sharp Point Impact

Shear Strength
And... many more requirements
Sizes & Tints - Unless stated otherwise, all sizes are in stock.
Color Tint: Is in the material. It is not an applied tinting or coating.
Same color all the way through.
Sizes: It is the installed height, measured from the top of the Fairing edge to the top center of the shield.
8", 9" & 10" Light Gray
16% Gray Tint.
Tinted enough for a custom look but easy to see thru at night. A good all around color.
6", 7", 8", 9" & 10" Dark Gray
66% Gray Tint
A dark tint like a pair of Sunglasses. Easy to see through in the daylight, might be too dark for some riders at night. But definately the best color to add a custom look to your bike. There are no immediate plans to make a clear or solid black windshield.
Warranty:
100% Guaranteed to fit correctly
1 year Unconditional Warranty Against:
Manufacturing Defects, Cracking, Breaking and Hard Coating.
We're so confident with the quality of our new windshield, if you are the original purchaser of this windshield & you wreck your bike & break the windshield...
Send the pieces back & we'll replace it FREE... but you have to pay S&H costs.
So.....Think about it. Where can you buy a polycarbonate windshield like this for less than $100.00 ....... No Where !
HDs standard windshields that are not recurved sell for $110.00 & up.
Other recurved windshields are over $125.00
